“Knives  Out” with Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis. Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in Knives Out, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. Quadrille: A Romantic Play. Story and Script by Melynda Kiring, Directed by Stephen Foreman. Ingredients:1 Self-Sufficient Woman Baker, 1 Nobleman in need of a Cook, 1 Sweet Young Lady, 1 Dashing Hero.Preheat to the year 1835. Mix the Baker and the Nobleman together until romance blossoms. For a little confusion, gently add the Sweet Young Lady into the mix. Sprinkle in a pinch of frustrated love, and then add a dash of Hero rushing in to save the day. Bake at 350 degrees for the length of one duel, or until ready to admit the truth. Serves them all right. Quadrille is a delicious tale featuring romance, secret plots, good food, more secret plots, bad food, heroic duels, and plenty of perfectly prepared corn muffins. Bon appetit!

January Parents’ Night Out: Planets and Stars, from the Greenbelt Recreation ARTS. Drop your kids with us, while you have a relaxing night out! While you are having dinner at your favorite restaurant, your children will enjoy art activities, a pizza dinner and a movie! You are welcome to drop your child(ren) off for all or part of the time. Dinner will be served at 6:15pm. All children must be potty trained in order to participate.

Shannon Bielski & Moonlight Drive – winner of the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Bluegrass Competition and made up of five of the most promising up-and-comers on the D.C. bluegrass scene, Moonlight Drive mixes progressive bluegrass, country, and traditional American music with a solid dose of the traditional bluegrass the band members grew up immersed in. Happenstance Theater opens “Juxtapose.”  The Happenstance Theater quintet is developing a Theatrical Collage inspired by the works of Joseph Cornell. Please note this is a NEW work-in-progress that has only begun development right here at Joe’s on January 6th. The audience is invited to stay for talk-backs after all the performances to give the artists your candid (but loving) feedback. Also performing January 18 and 19.

Bach Cantata Series: BWV 51 J.S. Bach, known as the great master, wrote more than 200 cantatas, and UMD Choral Activities aims to sing them all in this series of short performances by students, faculty, staff and community friends led by conductors in the graduate program.
