“Little Richard – I am Everything” ONE SHOW ONLY! Explore the Black queer origins of rock n’ roll, exploding the whitewashed canon of American pop music to reveal the true innovator: Richard Penniman. In interviews with family, musicians, and cutting-edge Black and queer scholars, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for ultimate self-expression, yet what he gave to the world he was never able to give to himself. The world tried to put him in a box, but Richard was an omni being who contained multitudes — he was unabashedly everything.

FREE Campfire Program: The Goatman. 7:30 pm. For 70 years, a legend of a half-man, half goat creature lurking in the woods of Greenbelt have thrilled park visitors. Similar cryptids (mysterious creatures) stalk forests and fields across the country, but our local Goatman is the most infamous. Beware, for the bleat of a goat can sometimes be heard in the night, just beyond the flickering light of the campfire, and the creature has been known to haunt these talks. The Goatman lives!

A Joint Celebration! Two bands and one high-energy party starting at 6pm: The Bachelor and The Bad Actress: An all-original acoustic duo featuring Joseph P. Swelterpants and his lady Hillary that sounds like a film about two folk musicians hanging out at an absurdist honky tonk, occasionally throwing bombs.
Professor Goldstein: In the Professor’s own words- I love pop punk. I love country. I love that every indie band is now trying to be their own take on Weezer and I’d love to find my niche in the Weezer-core genre. Whether it’s a nasally, stream-of-conscious screechfest of a song or a carefully crafted ballad that subtly describes how Dinosaur documentaries shaped my childhood, I’ll find a way to get it in people’s ears and make them excited and share that excitement with them! In the Greenbelt Forest Preserve
Stories from the Woods with Paul Downs, 10 am. Take a hike in the forest and a walk down Memory Lane with Paul. He will introduce you to his memories of growing up in Greenbelt – and how he bonded with and defended the Woods of Greenbelt. Find out why we have pumpkins in the forest, how did this forest get spared from development and why we must continue to protect it! We will meet at the parking lot of Greenbelt Homes, Inc. at 1 Hamilton Place, Greenbelt. RSVPs are appreciated so we know you will be attending! RSVP to suzanbwild@gmail.com As always, we will provide refreshments following the walk – in the tradition of the Committee to Save the Greenbelt!
As President of the Committee to Save the Green Belt, Paul Downs, along with Rodney Roberts and others, led the way to save our forest from being clear cut and developed. He created the Children’s Pumpkin Walk (now just the Pumpkin Walk) and brought the voice of the community to sway the City to reclaim the Green Belt and protect it! For his efforts he was named the 2017 Greenbelt Outstanding Citizen.

Plant Swap and Scavenger Hunt, starting at 11:00. It’s time to take stock of your garden: harvest some seeds, divide your perennials, and evaluate your blank spaces. Then bring along your excess plants, divisions, seedlings, seeds, and bulbs to the Plant Swap and prepare to pick up some new plants. Also bring your surplus tools that are in good working condition, gardening books, magazines, garden ornaments, etc. Please do not bring houseplants or invasive species such as English Ivy, pachysandra, periwinkle, Rose of Sharon, etc. — we have more than enough. Large objects that are not traded get to go back home with their respective donors. We’ll set up at 11:00 AM and start the Swap with a “tour” of the available plants at 11:15. Please bring a card with a description of your plant. After that, everyone will get a turn to pick out a plant or gardening miscellany until everything is gone. We will go around the tables in one direction, maintaining 6’ distance. If you are a new gardener and don’t have anything for the Plant Swap, you can always garner a few tips as well as pick up some plants. We are also bringing back our Scavenger Hunt! This is a fun and engaging outdoor family activity that you can take home and do on your own. You can take home the laminated reusable sheets to look for nature items on your walks around Greenbelt throughout the seasons. One is suitable for younger kids, and one for more advanced readers. All are welcome.
