Friday, November 19

At the Old Greenbelt Theatre

“Passing” 5 pm.2021, 1 hr 38 min, PG-13. Cast: Ruth Negga, Tessa Thompson, Andre Holland, Alexander Skarsgard. 1920s New York City, a Black woman finds her world upended when her life becomes intertwined with a former childhood friend who’s passing as white.

“DUNE” 7:30 pm.(2 hrs 35 min PG-13) Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, only those who can conquer their own fear will survive.

Utopia Film Festival!

Greenbelt’s 17th Utopia Film Festival presents documentaries, feature films, shorts and animation which creatively explore the personal, social, political, cultural and environmental issues which challenge humanity’s never-ending quest for a better world. The program includes 27 films with subject matter ranging from health to comedy, farmers to politics, militia to poetry, LGBTQ issues to voting rights. Art and music feature as well, along with a number of historical documentaries.

Venues are the historic Old Greenbelt Theatre and the New Deal Cafe. A number of filmmakers will be present for Q & A sessions after their movies are screened.

At the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at UMD

Barclay Brass 3- 5 pm. Trumpeter and UMD School of Music graduate Nathan Clark ’13 , arranger and trombonist David Miller and UMD School of Music lecturer and tubist Willie Clark came together in 2015 to create a brass ensemble of the highest caliber—featuring some of Washington, D.C.’s finest military band musicians. From patriotic and ceremonial to classical and seasonal, the Barclay Brass performs for diverse audiences from K-12 students to the Pope. Recently, the ensemble was part of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s “The Force at 40,” a celebration of the 40th anniversary release of “Star Wars.” TICKET HERE – Pay what you wish.
