Programs
Greenbelt Elementary School (GES) offers full day Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten-5th grade classes. The school is in session from late August through mid-June. The school offers before care and after care for a fee.
How can our community support Greenbelt Elementary School?
Visit their Book Sale at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival: The Greenbelt Elementary PTA runs a used-book sale every year as part of the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival, scheduled for Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1, 2014. There will be more than 20,000 books for sale! Proceeds benefit school programs and supplies.
Participate in their Annual Rafael’s Race 5K race/1K run-walk October 25, 2014. 1K start time- 8:40 am. 5K start time- 9:00 am. Registration info here.
The race is powered by teachers and families who were moved by the unstoppable spirit of Rafael Martins. He was a 4th-grade student at GES, who sadly passed away in October of 2009. Rafael’s last day of school was a field trip to Bladensburg Waterfront Park, where he and his classmate took part in learning about nature and animal habitats. As the class was leaving to return to school, Rafael saw an American Bald Eagle soaring overhead.
Proceeds will support the PTA’s mission to offer activities that enhance the joy and well-being of GES students and staff in a way that complements and enriches the learning environment. All proceeds collected from this race will be used to support student field trips, and to Camp Sunshine, a retreat for kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Donate supplies such as: Clorox wipes, tissues, liquid hand soap, baby wipes, paper towels, hand sanitizer, #2 pencils – sharpened (large regular sized), composition notebooks , large glue sticks, glue bottles, boxes of 16-24 crayons, washable markers, children’s safety scissors, large pink erasers, thin, black dry erase markers. Donations gratefully accepted at the main office.
The school has a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Greenbelt PTA meetings are the first Tuesday of every month from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Media Center. Free child care is available in the gym. You don’t have to be a member to attend meetings.
There are many ways to support the school’s program, students and staff. As a parent of a new student at GES, I look forward to becoming involved and working with the school community. See you “in school” soon!

The Pre-Kindergarten program at Greenbelt Elementary School is a half day program. Prince George’s County Public School’s Prekindergarten eligibility requirements are aligned with the Maryland Code of Regulations (COMAR). COMAR 13A.06.03 A.-B., states a local school system is required to enroll 4 year-old children from families with economically disadvantaged backgrounds or who are homeless whose parents seek to enroll them.
As of 8/28/2014, all 40 Pre-Kindergarten spots are filled.
