UPDATE: The project got full funding through Kickstarter!
Harold Anderson’s Kickstarter campaign is down to the wire, with just 24 hours to go to meet its goal, so go there now and donate! Just watching this video by Harold inspired me to support the project. Give it a look.
See, 1000 Days of Greenbelt Nature would compile gorgeous photos and informative text about the critters in our midst, and that’s something I declared my intention to do on this very blog. I knew I couldn’t do it all alone, so the idea was to solicit others to add their own local bird and mammal lists to my own. But then I went on my very first actual bird walk and realized how daunting a task it would be for me to recognize more than a handful of common birds myself.
Sadly, what I discovered on a group walk around Lake Artemesia was that while experienced birders were thrilled to spot and name a large number of birds, for me, seeing mere specks at the end of my binoculars was no thrill at all. Plus, I learned nothing from doing it, except how much I have to learn.
So I’ve scaled back my ambitions and have the new goal of recognizing the birds that come to my feeders, and learning as much about them as I can. Getting good photos of even these nearby birds I’ll leave to actual photographers, like Harold.
