Performing Arts Coordinator Chris Cherry has been with the City of Greenbelt Recreation Department since 2000. His duties include coordinating the Creative Kids Camp, for which he writes a brand new musical every summer – music and lyrics – and sometimes performs in the show, too. The shows, with a cast of 100+ including adults, have to be put together in two weeks’ time.

Chris also teaches a music appreciation class for seniors.

Outside of his duties with the city, Chris is on the faculty of the Shakespeare Theater’s MFA program.

Chris attended Oxon Hill Senior High and the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and received a law degree from the University of Virginia. He quit the law in 1992 when he moved to Old Greenbelt, where he still lives.

See this 2003 profile in the Greenbelt News Review to learn much more about Chris.
