Greenbelt Association for the Visual Arts
The Greenbelt Association for the Visual Arts is organized to provide comprehensive programming in the visual arts, and in interdisciplinary projects, for the population of Greenbelt and the surrounding communities.
Our goal is to offer quality programs that are accessible to a diverse population, and to serve as advocates for the Greenbelt arts community.
Our vision is to create a vibrant center for the visual arts which will actively cooperate with other arts and community organizations in Greenbelt, Prince George’s County, and Maryland, and with the City of Greenbelt, to foster creativity and community involvement in the arts.
The Greenbelt Association for the Visual Arts (GAVA), offers painting, block printing, and comic book art classes at Mowatt Church for home-school and after-school students during the academic year. Also offered are quarterly sessions of GAVA/GATE Animation Classes for youth 7-18 years-old – with additional classes for home-schoolers and special needs teens.
GAVA has a partnership with the PTA of Greenbelt Elementary School, helping to bring local artists into the school for special projects that enhance the curriculum.
