Melissa Sites is a singer, songwriter, musician, music teacher and music leader. Melissa has been a proud Greenbelter for more than 20 years, and loves to lead music for public or private events! Melissa loves music of all genres from traditional folk music, early music and old time, through country, blues, bluegrass and roots music, to pop, rock and metal! From sacred to secular, Melissa is there for the music, and happy to bring you along.
Melissa specializes in setting words to music — so if you have words, or an idea in mind, she will work with you to create a song together.
Melissa has taught singing, general music, piano, guitar and recorder to beginners young and old since 1997. Melissa has taught Baby Music at the Greenbelt Community Center since 2004 and has amassed all the bells and whistles — a fun collection of unique instruments for little and big hands — ready for encounters different types of instruments from around the world.
Melissa has a BA in Music from Hollins University, where she studied Classical Voice. She has also studied the unaccompanied ballad tradition, including the Appalachian ballad with Sheila Kay Adams. Melissa performs with guitar or piano.
