Blizzards are fun to photograph, and Greenbelters were out taking lots of shots this last week – and then donating some of them to this Commemorative 2016 Blizzard Blog Post. Â So a big thanks to everyone for the shots!
The blizzard started January 22, a Friday afternoon, and by the evening Roosevelt Center looked like this. By morning, nearby apartments looked like this. Photos by Jennifer Moore.

Some Greenbelters began shoveling out right away, others slogged to the Old Greenbelt Theatre, which never closed! Here’s exec. director Caitlin McGrath’s photo to social media announcing that as long as there was power, the theater would be open. Â (Photo left by Crystal Jones.)
The theater was pretty at night. Â Photo right by Thomas Mellies.

The City of Greenbelt’s snow-removing team was busier than anyone, and we thank them for their work!!

Â
By Sunday, the New Deal Cafe was open and hosting a puppet show. This photo of puppet-show-goers’ sleds by Amy Knesel was the winning entry in a photo contest by the Greenbelters group on Facebook. Now it’s the group’s cover photo.Â

Schools were closed all week, so lucky for parents that the Old Greenbelt Theatre showed free kids’ movies every day, in partnership with the Greenbelt Department of Recreation. (Photo credit: City of Greenbelt).
And finally, a time-lapse video by Betsy Marks Delaney.

A blizzard can be fun if no one has to drive. Love the pictures.

And no one lost power! So a wonderful blizzard it was. Glad you like the shots.

what a nice collection with mix of scenic and people – liked that picture of the two greenbelt employees in the car, and the time lapse – next time she should do it backwards, but it was neat to watch the snow piling up in the truck bed
