Spotted in Greenbelt Gardens in the Fall

posted in: Home and Garden

amsonia fall color in GreenbeltStrolling my neighborhood in late October I spied one of my favorite plants along Ridge Road.  It’s Amsonia hubrichtii, a perennial native to this region that looks great in three seasons but this one’s the best, imho.  The orange gets even stronger!

Then just down the road I discovered my new favorite garden in town, with this service-side display of a purple grass, coleus, mums, and more.

It even has Amsonia – it’s that light green feathery plant at far right in the photo above. That’s its summer color.

And below, the garden side.  Love it, too.

I’ll be following this garden throughout the year.

Great gardens. I love to see what plants others are using successfully. My amsonia is pathetic — perhaps not enough sun. Your photos will encourage me to walk around town to see what others are doing. Small GHI yards are perfect for easy to manage gardens that look good all year.

That grass you like is pink muhly(Muhlenbergia capillaris)grass. Its native and my hands down favorite for fall gardens!

Oh yes. A nice respite from the election coverage. You have some beautiful gardens in your neighborhood. I want to see them in person. LOL
