1st Contra Dance in Greenbelt is a Hit!

posted in: Fun Stuff

Great turn-out, great music and calling, and hopes are high that this will become a regular event in the Community Center gym – on first-Saturday nights every month. Due to scheduling conflicts and gym-floor renovations, the dances won’t start up again until February but after that, it should be a regular event.  A natural for Greenbelt.

For newbies to contra dancing, it’s easier than just about anything, using a simple walking step.  Every dance is preceded by a walk-through, and even after the music starts, the caller keeps giving instruction. Also, notice how couples proceed down or up the hall to dance with another couple every few minutes?  So each dance is a mixer.  Very social.
