Join Greenbelters and other garden-lovers in the beloved lakeside garden of Mary Lou Williamson this Sunday from noon to 4. The forecast is great! Light refreshments will be available.
As an avid gardener and long-time editor of the Greenbelt News Review, Mary Lou has run ads in the paper inviting everyone to her summer birthday parties for years. Now, since last year, the event has been moved to spring, when her garden is at its peak.
So you’ll see quite a variety of spring-blooming azaleas, including the rarely seen native azaleas that bloom in colors like the vibrant orange you see above.
The Old Greenbelt Gardening Boosters are hosting again this year, which will leave Mary Lou free to socialize and answer all your garden and plant questions. The event is also an early celebration of her 85th birthday this summer, so be sure to wish her well!
You’re encouraged to walk all the way down to the lake path because Mary Lou’s garden now extends that far! Her collection of woodland plants tumbling down the hillside is full of treasures for your enjoyment.
